SK LogoFollowing on from its recent Ireland campaign, SamKnows is now continuing its campaign for broadband improvement across the globe with our help.

This week the UK Government announced that its £1.7bn super-fast broadband rollout had reached over one million homes and businesses. It is now focusing on the final 5% of the country, those in very rural or remote areas.

Even with investment taking place, it is not all good news. Tech City, the East London area known for its innovative tech start-ups, is actually struggling with its broadband speeds. Its proof that you don’t have to live up a mountain to have internet issues.

SamKnows has been working with Ofcom, broadband providers and other campaign groups to drive broadband improvement across the UK. Further afield it is working with the US FCC, EU Commission and other international regulators via public-assisted campaigns to collate performance and diagnostic information. This lets SamKnows transparently report on services, which in turn makes a difference to broadband speeds.

SamKnows is actively campaigning around the following issues:

  • Broadband policy, rural broadband and improvement of services
  • The Internet of Things and big data’s power – because of its partnerships, it sees itself in a strong position to become the diagnostics provider of the IoT
  • Open data, data sovereignty and data governance
  • Internet access as a human right and its ability to change people’s lives
