Responsible AI Charter
Published: 26/04/2023 / Last Updated:20/05/2025
1. Introduction
Early into AI’s mainstream emergence in 2023, Bamboo launched its Responsible AI Charter. This charter details our approach to responsibly using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This should be read in addition to our Privacy Notice, which covers our duty of care towards personal data. Also in this charter is our list of approved AI tools, which is reviewed periodically.
2. Why does this policy exist?
AI is a transformational shift in the workplace and marketing. When monumental changes like this occur, Bamboo treads cautiously with complete transparency to our clients and business partners. This charter outlines:
- How we see the state of AI
- The differences between generative and assistive AI
- The pros, cons, risks, and threats of AI
- AI technologies under evaluation, in use, or decommissioned
- Contact details for you to reach a human to discuss
3. What constitutes AI?
AI, chatbots and similar technologies have existed for some time. Most now describe AI as generative AI. The most well-known examples are ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini. There is also assistive AI, such as elements of Microsoft Teams Premium’s meeting transcription, which reduces admin, increases productivity, and enables people to work more effectively. Assistive AI is not about creating things from scratch but rather using empowering people to work more effectively.
4. What are the benefits and opportunities of using AI?
We see benefits in streamlining (human-checked) research, automated notetaking, easing creative brainstorming, faster marketing production and productivity gains.
5. What are the threats of AI?
The risks of unethical, untempered use of AI include plagiarism, unintentional intellectual property theft, malicious use, disinformation, a threat to livelihoods, overreliance and dishonest relationships.
6. What does this mean for our clients?
We regularly communicate our company’s AI position and will always communicate:
- What tools we are using and why
- How AI has touched any work
Data protection, privacy, and intellectual property (IP) are at the top of our agenda, and a thorough evaluation process exists to protect client data and IP.
7. What about the effect on Team Bamboo?
We will not replace our people with AI. Instead, we will empower them with technology.Over two years into this charter’s existence, it became clear that companies started embedding AI into their technologies natively. It became too difficult to police its use and to opt out.In April 2025, we moved from a position of zero use to a position of optional use with the caveat of full transparency so we can all learn, improve and understand its role in our work.
8. What about content production and copywriting?
Our love of words, talented team, and clients’ trust mean we will be a human-led company until the end of time.We never dishonestly parade any AI-written work as our own; this charter communicates AI’s influence on any content production, should that ever be deemed appropriate. As of the time of writing, we do not use generative AI to produce written content from scratch and have no plans to do so beyond an upcoming pilot for social media post creation. We currently use Grammarly for grammar checking and SEMrush’s Writing Assistant for SEO best practices.
9. What AI technologies does Bamboo PR use?
AI has been injected into every aspect of digital life, and its influence continues to grow. For full transparency, we’ve broken down how this affects Team Bamboo and the way we work.Clients are separated into three camps:
- Zero use allowed
- Allowable use but with specific caveats
- Unrestricted use
10. Embedded AI technologies
These technologies are those that come with AI already embedded.
- SEMrush
- Google Analytics
- Google Ads
- Miro
- Monday.com
- Canva
- Capcut
11. Activated AI integrations
Some platforms and applications have AI integrations that you can opt out of or choose not to activate on your account. Team Bamboo uses the following software that offer AI functionality – but we’ve chosen not to activate it.
- Grammarly Go
12. AI pilots
We recognise the advancements that AI offers modern-day businesses. To understand how we can streamline workflows and enhance productivity while continuing to provide our clients with human-crafted content, we’re testing the following AI platforms and services:
- Microsoft Teams Premium
Transcription and automated notetaking, this technology is currently in the trial period, and will be fully implemented in September 2025 - ChatGPT
For client-approved research, ideation, and editing, but specifically no content generation – In scoping
