HP LogoA week is a long time in technology and there’s been plenty of news to muse over. Computer giant HP is seriously struggling and announced it won’t be making PCs, tablets or phones anymore. Chief rival Apple was the only PC manufacturer to buck the trend and show European growth in Q2 2011. Rivals Acer dropped 45% and Asus, 23%, while Dell saw a 13% drop.

Elsewhere, the video games industry continued to show its might at gamescom, the annual European trade event in Cologne, and Facebook announced another new layout was on its way, with analysis courtesy of ZDNet’s Zack Whittaker.
